Ah...where to start. This piece was inspired by a
few different things. One is that I had recently watched a few of
those movies with the heroine who saves the world and really wanted
to capture myself in that role. But the true meaning behind this
piece is that having children is the most amazing but the most
important responsibility I could have ever imagined. I wanted to
show how our children look up to us to do the right thing, to know
all the answers, to show them the right way and keep them from
harm. In everyday life. Motherhood is the most incredible but the
scariest of roles and we don't always have the answers. BUT...we
always need to act like we do. Because if we break down and do not
act like it will all be ok then we area all doomed! First in a
series. It is my daughter and I.

My children and I go on lots of outings. When living up north one of our favorite places was the Philadelphia Zoo. We often fed the ducks there and I have a ton of photo research of the ducks. This one I tried something different. I started with a black painted canvas and only drew a rough outline of the duck. Then picked up the paint and started. I just love how it turned out. SOLD! Again, trying something new. My children are often the subjects in my paintings. This is my son's eye. I tried to capture the age and innocence in his eye. I first painted the canvas black and then taped off areas with shredded pieces of tape. Once the painting was done I lifted the tape to reveal the final piece!
